We have a new baby in our home!

Meet the adorable little Miss Mollie Mae. At only seven pounds, she is quite a princess, and Ms. Susan fell in love with her instantly. She is a little rescue pup that recently moved to Georgia from Alabama. Her first mommy was an elderly woman who had a stroke and couldn't keep her any longer. Then she got passed to one home after another by the adult children of her mom who tried to make it work but really couldn't.

Then she had a mommy for a little while that went to Alabama to get her and wanted so much to keep her but Mollie's new VERY BIG brother thought that Mollie was a toy. After several weeks of a cat and mouse game, our poor little baby doll was terrified, and her new Georgia mommy had to give her up.

Ed happened to see her one day in front of a pet store where they were offering precious babies for adoption. Mollie took one look at my sweet husband and it was all over. The next day she was our new little baby girl.

She has been with us for about a month now, and her nomad days are over. Prissy, Mollie's older sister, has grown accustomed to her although, at the beginning, she was asking us when Mollie was going to go home.

Mollie has somewhat dethroned her big sister, but we have learned to 'share the love' equally.

An all black dog is really hard to photograph. We keep asking her if she can see, because we sure can't see her eyes, but Mollie tells us that she can see just fine! In fact, the next time you are in the studio, I am sure that Mollie would like to see you and say 'Hi.'

Please don't hesitate to ask to see her. Little Mollie Mae knows no strangers!

The BLOG contest is over, and

Whew - This was a STINKING tight race. Tobin and his family worked really hard, and they were a very close second, but Jacob and his South African contingent squeaked by and won with two comments. The numbers that put them over the top came in after close of business on July 31, the final day of the contest. Jacob and his family win the grand prize which is $500 in gift portraits.

And, then, on top of that, they also have won the first prize ($300) for February, first place for May ($300).

WOW! That is $100 in portrait credits that Jacob and his friends and family have earned. Is Ms. Susan crazy or what to give away so much stuff?

Prizes are 1st place for the month ($300) in portrait credits
2nd place - $200 in portrait credits
3rd place - $100 in portrait credits.

A portrait credit/buck can be applied towards a wall portrait or towards a gift portrait only. Due to the discounted nature of packages, they can not be applied towards a package.

January - Anniston 1st place
Harrison, 2nd place, and Ella, 3rd place

February - Jacob won first place, Declan won 2nd, and Reed came in 3rd.

Prissy is MY baby girl.

When you look at these images, you may think you are looking at a D-O-G. However, you are mistaken. This is a baby girl. Prissy has a heart that is made out of sugar. Bless her little heart, but she has never had a day in her life that anybody has ever been mean to her. Oh sure, she has had a handful of spankings in the nine years of her life, but she has lived quite a charmed life. Therefore, she thinks that EVERYBODY has come to see her and that they want to play with her.

Sorry, little Butterbean, but real life just ain't that way!

Anyway, we have a new set at the studio, and Prissy wanted to be the first to model it for you. It is 'all white' and it is known by photographers as a hi-key background. It is usually really hard to achieve, but it looks like little princess and I have it under control.

So, the next time that you come to White Flower Photography, please be sure to ask Ms. Susan about her new toy, er, uh........ the hi-key set. If you make a point of letting her know that you would like for her to bring it out in the beginning of the session while there is still time, she will be sure to get it all set up for you!

We have been in a computer jungle

Well, to put it mildly, Ms. Susan has been in a computer and technology jungle. Easily, she has spent a thousand dollars or more per month (for at least a year) on either fixing something that is broken or adding additional hard drive storage for the large volume of humongous files that are housed on the White Flower Photography network. All images are created with a 17 megapixel camera - YIKES!

Switching to COMCAST only turned the problem into a night mare. The network was destroyed by their DSL line and the bills continued to climb. Then the VOIP (phone) system became increasingly unreliable. We had no access to our database or calendar which means that we weren't always able to call you or to schedule your appointments as we have wanted to. YIKES!

There have been days that we couldn't make or receive phone calls. There have been days that we couldn't use the internet. We are in the process of switching back to AT&T. Hopefully, these issues are about to be resolved.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATIENCE! Believe me, it has been very, very stressful on our end.

Also, please remember that images that are not ordered will be destroyed after 60 days. Data storage is simply too expensive for the long term, especially when less than one percent of those images are ever ordered again.

White Flower Photography is hosting a BLOG Comment contest. What is that you say? Our blog got started the first week of January, and just to celebrate the event, we are going to give away lots of FREE prizes!

For starters, there will be several categories. There will be a prize for each kid who gets the most comments per month. ( Of course, any comment that is considered to be unkind, rude, obscene, etc. by the studio management will be disqualified and summarily removed. Also, if you happen to see something that you think is questionable, please send Susan an email at susan@whiteflowerphotography.com to let her know.)

Each month will have two prizes. There will be your choice of a $250 portrait bucks gift certificate or an 11 x 14 wall portrait as a first prize and second prize will be a $100 portrait bucks gift certificate.

Thc child that receives the most comments for all six months will receive a 16 x 20 wall portrait or a comparable value in portrait bucks should that be preferred.

Contact your friends, your neighbors, and everybody you know. Tell them about your child's adorable image on the blog and invite them to come and take a look and cast a comment.

The deadline for posting comments towards this even is July 31. We are making it that late to allow all of the children that have been photographed in late June to have enough time to get the comments. On July 31, the blog will go off line long enough for a count to be made and for prizes to be awarded. Of course, the winners will be announced.

Amy and Rob are engaged!

Well, Amy is Ms. Susan's baby girl. When she was a baby, it never seemed possible that so much time would pass for this day to actually happen. She and Rob are perfect for each other. They are planning a wedding ceremony Memorial Day weekend of 2009. That time will get here before we know it!

When my girls were small, I was almost afraid of their marriages. Will there ever be anyone that we would think would be good enough for them? Will they become painfully disappointed by a marriage that doesn't make it?

Ed and I couldn't be happier about Rob. Amy just graduated from Mercer University's nursing program and is working on the ICU floor at Gwinnett Medical Center. Rob will graduate in August from Georgia State with a doctorate degree in physical therapy. (DPT) They have so many great years ahead. We celebrated the occasion with an impromptu engagement party at our house this past weekend. YIPPEE! We wish you every good and perfect blessing. You are worthy of only good things.

His big brother, Austin, can't wait until they can play together, but until then, he is just waiting and loving the precious little guy that just came home for the first time only a few weeks ago. What a wonderful and very happy family Robbie has. It was such a treat to have them here!

Well, Susan had quite a week. She drove out to Texas with two other professional photographers from the Atlanta area for an awesome week of photography school. Here she is with Ana (black hat; do you notice who the 'good guy' is?) and Marsha. We went to Texas, because the very best of the best instructors are out there. Here you see Susan with Tony Corbell (www.corbellproductions.com) He is world-renowned for being a master teacher of light. It was a fantastic week, and Susan learned TONS of awesome things about studio lighting that she never dreamed were possible.

Look at them. Aren't they just so precious? Emily (on the left) and Rebecca (on the right) are the newest Little Blessings that have come into our studio. It was so much fun to hold and cuddle them. They are double blessings, but they are equally doubly blessed: they each have a mom and dad that are so incredibly devoted to them.

Yes, Mom and Dad were sleep deprived when they came into the studio, but they were also clearly very much in love with their daughters. Look at the tender shots that we were able to obtain. These little love buttons were so good and so patient with all of the crazy and fun things that we were trying to do with them.

If only every child could know this much love.

Some of you may have heard me tell the story about how my daughter started taking violin at the age of four. She took Suzuki violin lessons and she also was trained at a Montessori school in her early years. I actually was her teacher when she was a second grader in Montessori. I have told you about many of the fun teaching techniques that were used to help her to learn. Many of the moms that have come to our studio have expressed appreciation at the little teaching tips that I have shared.

She went on to play violin professionally and she currently has a very successful career in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area where she performs with several of the local orchestras, runs a Suzuki violin school that she owns, and co-directs a summer trumpet camp with her husband who is a professional trumpeter.

Last Saturday night, she soloed as concertmaster in a Bernadette Peters performance in the Dallas area. The percussionist in the orchestra that night was Cubby O'Brien, an original mousketeer. Does he look familiar to you?
